    Smile

i'm going to ask a bunch of annoying questions..i hope you all don't mind smile..my friend who was stationed in japan found an siR in a junkyard and stripped it for me..he's shipping back a b16a w/ y1 tranny w/ lsd *mmmm*, siR ecu, siR gauge cluster, etc..so this being my first engine swap i am feeling a bit overwhelmed. should i get the engine rebuilt? i think it's got around 200,000 km on it..how much should that cost? which engine mount kit should i look into..i don't want to sacrifice quality for price. and should i get a helms manual? there will be a bunch more questions in the coming months..i appreciate all the help! thanks...

YES get a helms manual. Also, I believe hasport mounts are the best. At least everyone says that. If you know it has 200,000 km on it I would go for a rebuild. A local shop should do a basic rebuild for around 5-600 bucks right?

Try and get your freind to get you an SiR one.. A Del Sol one will be a bit different because the Del Sol motors are OBDI and thats not the same as your motor.

Get HAsport mounts, or copies.. I had a reputable shop make me copies and they are excellent. smile

I wouldn't sweat on a rebuild until you have the engine running in the car for a few weeks.

I just hit 201,408 kilometers with my SiR - regularly hits 8000 RPM and does short and long distance runs. The engine is still very tight - reglar oil changes indicate no problems and I'm not burning any oil. I'd suggest a new timing belt (while it's out of the engine bay), ancillery belts, oil and fuel filters and plugs. Use NGK plugs - I have the designation for them under my bonnet if you need it. Check the condition of all external seals.

The engine will have been standing for an indeterminable period of time and temps in Japan vary, so make sure you prep it and run it in properly.

Other than that though, I'd leave the engine alone - most Japanese runner motors we get here have 60,000 on them tops - even if they are over the 200K mark it may well be that it is still close to perfection. I swear the B16As were the best engines built - of course, I'm biased smile
